Janet Peterson Memorial Trophy

CSHHF Janet Peterson Memorial Trophy
The Janet Peterson trophy is an award recognizing those who make the dreams of riders and horses come true. People such as owners, sponsors, vets, farriers, grooms, show managers, judges, stable managers and many others. Our criteria in recognizing the every day unsung hero is simple: recognize those who strive to make the sport of show hunters better. Janet Peterson was one such owner, a true lifelong horsewoman, who for decades owned and enjoyed the careers of numerous top show hunters. Probably the most famous was Brunello, co-owned by Janet and Liza Towell-Boyd, currently the most decorated International Hunter Derby champion of all time.

Elma Garcia Award
At the inaugural CSHHF induction ceremony, naming rights for an annual award
given to an exemplary horse that showed in the Adult Amateur or Children’s Hunter division were auctioned off as a fundraiser. Mr Cannavino topped the bidding, naming the trophy “The Elma Garcia Award” in his wife’s honor. Elma Garcia is an accomplished amateur dressage rider. In 2017 she won the US Dressage Finals in the adult amateur division of Prix St. George and Intermediare I. Professionally she is an award winning director of commercials. Both she and her husband moved to the Tryon area in 2017.

2018 Happy Hour
Happy Hour Owned & Ridden By Meg Atkinson
Meg Atkinson first saw Happy Hour at a schooling show in Aiken SC. As a five-year-old the 15.1 hand Thoroughbred cross didn’t fit the mold of a classic show hunter but Meg thought, “if nothing else he will make a great practice horse”.  Early in his career it became apparent that he was a little horse with a big heart.  With trainers Daniel and Cathy Geitner, Happy Hour was champion at Aiken Spring Classic, Atlanta Spring and Summer Classics, River Glen Fall Gathering, Tryon Classic, Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show, LP Tate Spring Classic, and the TR&HC Charity Summer shows. He won the TR&HC Will Do Grand Adult Hunter Champion Trophy, the TR&HC Barbara Jimenez Adult Hunter Perpetual Trophy, the Classic Company Horse of the Year John Deere Gator, the EMO High Point Adult Hunter Champion, and the USEF Zone Horse of the Year. Happy Hour moved to Tryon and trained with Holli Adams where he continued his winning ways till he retired in 2012.
